Charlie's has been part of the landscape in Somers Point since Charlie Thomas opened it as a classic corner bar in 1944. These days it's the fourth generation of the Thomas family carrying on the corner‑bar “Cheers” atmosphere — only with a whole lot more.

Our story
80+ Years.4 Generations.1 Charlie's.
Charlie Thomas opened a corner tap room on New Jersey Avenue in 1944 and moved it across the street in 1953. Same family, same corner, ever since — his great‑grandchildren are the ones pouring now.
“Hands down the best wings in Jersey — probably the whole USA. The staff is great, the drinks are cold. And if you like soup, try the she‑crab. Amazing.”

“We've been going to Charlie's for as long as I can remember, and it's one of the most consistent places you'll find. From the atmosphere to the staff to the ownership, it's one of those places that always feels right.”

“The wings are top notch — I love the tailgun sauce. The Old Bay fries are a favourite, and the cheesesteaks are by far our favourite in the county. Their trivia nights are super fun as well.”

“Best wings in NJ. Went for lunch and came back to get more wings for dinner. Now we can't wait to return. Service was incredible and everything was a great price.”

“I am addicted to the potato skins and the Southwest BBQ wings. Best sauce anywhere. The skins are loaded, not just on top. Our seventh visit this summer.”

“Best Philly cheesesteak I ever had — and South Jersey and Philadelphia are well known for cheesesteaks. Very good Yuengling on tap, and a very friendly staff.”

“Outstanding wings. Try a side of the Top Gun sauce — deep pepper taste with oil for a lingering kick. Must have: the crab mac and cheese. Charlie's is a local institution, great vibe.”

“Came to Charlie's for their famous buffalo wings on a Sunday afternoon. We ordered the thirty buffalo wing and a combo wing with boneless tenders and fries. Ice cold draught beer, which is a must. Our server was great.”

Not just a bar
A full service restaurant, too
I
The wings
The reason people drive down Shore Road. Buffalo, Southwest BBQ, Tail Gun and the notorious Top Gun. By the dozen, the thirty, or in a sampler with the tenders.
A full range of American cuisine — seafood, prime rib, southwestern. Regulars come back for the she‑crab soup, the crab mac & cheese, the cheesesteaks and the Old Bay fries.
